Background
In August 2013 power and water utility Senelec (Société Nationale d'Electricité du Sénégal) signed an agreement with Africa Energy to build a 300 MW coal and gas power plant in Mboro, Thies Region, Senegal. The project funding of US$360 million was "almost completed" and the plant was planned for operation in 2016.[1]
In 2014 it was reported that a 250 MW power station in Mboro was planned to come online in 2017.[2]
In March 2015, the project was in the news for its lack of progress and concerns about transparency.[3]
As of December 2019 there have been no further developments, and the project appears to be abandoned.
