METES power station

The plant is known both as Mersin Eren power station, and by its Turkish acronym, METES (Mersin Eren Termik Santralı).

Location

Background on Plant
In January 2013, Eren Elektrik (a subsidiary of Eren Holding) applied to build a two-unit, 1,320-MW coal-fired power plant in Mersin province.[1] A regulatory hearing was held in Akdere in March 2013, at which residents expressed opposition to the proposal.[2]
The EIA was reported as in the confirmation stage in January 2015.[3] Plans are for a 2 x 1,000 MW plant.[4]
In 2016 the EIA was rejected.[5] As of June 2018, the project appears to be abandoned.
