Prof Michael Bohlander, Professor in the Department of Law, Durham University (UK).
"Before joining the Department of Law in 2004, Professor Bohlander had been a full-time member of the German judiciary since 1991, sitting in both criminal and civil cases at all levels of the state judiciary up to the State Supreme Court.
"He received his doctorate in law in 1992 from the University of the Saarland, Germany, with a dissertation on British duty solicitor schemes and the implementation of a similar scheme in German criminal procedure. From 1999 until 2001 he served as the Senior Legal Officer of a Trial Chamber of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia.
"He has presented numerous papers in Europe, the United States, Asia, Africa and the Arab world. He has trained judges, prosecutors and government officials from Egypt, Palestine, Afghanistan and Kuwait as well as from Iraq, including the judges and prosecutors of the Iraqi High Tribunal which tried Saddam Hussein, on issues such as the rule of law, judicial independence and international criminal law. He is a member of the Rule of Law Network group of experts of the Hague Institute for the Internationalisation of Law (www.hiil.org)." [1]
