Biography

"Mike is founder chairman and lead consultant of The DEPOT (The Dan Eldon Place Of Tomorrow), a management consultancy that focuses on leadership, strategy, teambuilding, performance management and coaching. He is a non-executive director of Davis and Shirtliff and of Hotpoint; he is chairman of the University Council of KCA University, a member of the Governing Council of the Kenya Education Management Institute, and he has been active in the Rotary Club of Nairobi since 1978, through which he has worked extensively on youth and rural development.

"He has a degree in economics from University College London and is a Sloan Fellow of the London Business School. Mike entered the IT field (the term IT had not yet been coined!) in 1967, arriving in Kenya in 1977 to become general manager of a multinational computer company, and he has lived here ever since. He was a pioneer in the development of the use of IT in Kenya, and became deeply involved with national ICT policy formulation. Eight years ago he reinvented himself as a management consultant, and he has also been involved in national mediation and conflict resolution.

"Mike has been chairman of the Council (and is a Fellow) of the Kenya Institute of Management; a founding director and vice-chairman of the Kenya Private Sector Alliance; founder chairman of the Kenya ICT Federation; and founder chairman of the British Business Association of Kenya.Since 2007 he has been writing a column for Business Daily, and in 2009 he published Kenyans, Yes we Can! a collection of his articles and speeches. He was also a member of a World Bank led team that produced Achieving Shared Prosperity in Kenya, a 2013 book of policy recommendations for the current Kenya government. He is a keen photographer, and enjoys writing poetry and describing his travels through life.Mike is married to Evelyn Mungai."[1]
