Background on Plant
In April 2015 Kansai Electric Power in collaboration with Mitsubishi Corporation said it planned a new 112 MW coal-fired power plant in Kurashiki, at an estimated cost of 20 to 30 billion yen. The plant will be built on the grounds of the Mitsubishi Chemical Mizushima Plant. The generated electricity will mainly be sold to Kansai businesses and homes. The companies do not see an environmental impact assessment as necessary, due to the plant's small size. Construction is planned to start in the summer of 2015, with an estimated completion date of 2017.[1]
The plant began operating in December 2017, according to the Kiko Network.[2]
