Nancy Stokey

Nancy Stokey (1950-) is Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago.

Stokey is interested in macroeconomic theory and economic development, in patrticular the impact education and job training have on the development of national economies. She argues that economies expand when workforces adapt more complex skills, moving, for instance, from manufacturing into high technology.

Stokey's 1998 paper "Are There Limits to Growth" [1] addressed the question of environmental regulation. Her conclusion was that while development is the source of the pollution problem, further development brings its own cure.

Stokey's partner is Robert E. Lucas, also of the University of Chicago.
