Opposition
In May 2010, over 2,000 residents of Navlakh Umbre attended a meeting regarding the environmental impacts of the plant. According to the report, the project will use natural gas, not coal.[2] In March 2011, Niranjan Hiranandani, chairman of Hiranadani Group, charged that an "anti-Maharashtra lobby" was funding a legal campaign to obstruct the project.[3]
