Background on Plant
Neijiang Baima Demo power station was a five-unit coal-fired power plant with a total capacity of 1,520 MW in Sichuan Province. Units 1-3, totaling 620 MW, were completed between 1988 and 1996, and have been retired. The units were owned by China Huadian and China Guodian. Shenhua Group's Unit 4, with a capacity of 300 MW, was completed in 2006. Shenhua Group's Unit 5, with a capacity of 600 MW, was completed in 2013. Units 4-5 are also known as units 21-22.[1]
Ownership
On August 28, 2017, China's State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) announced that China Guodian Corporation and Shenhua Group will be jointly restructured. Shenhua Group will become China National Energy Investment Group and will absorb China Guodian Corporation. It will be the largest power company in the world by installed capacity, as well as the world's largest coal producer.[2][3] The merger was completed on November 28, 2017.[4]
