Biographical Information
"Neville Francis Nicolau, B.Tech (Mining Engineering), MBA, served as Chief Executive Officer of Anglo Platinum Ltd., a subsidiary of Anglo American plc from June 2008 to July 2012. Mr. Nicolau joined Anglo American Plc in March 2008 as the Group Head of Asset Optimisation. He served as Deputy Chief Operating Officer for Africa of AngloGold Ashanti Ltd., since January 3, 2005 and its Chief Operating Officer for Africa until July 2007. He served as Executive Officer of South Africa region of AngloGold Ashanti Ltd. from November 2001 to January 3, 2005. He served as a Technical Director of AngloGold South America region from December 1999 to 2001. He joined Anglo American Corporation in 1979 and worked at various managerial levels in all the major areas of the South Africa region and for its Uranium Division. Mr. Nicolau had 30 years’ experience in the Anglo American Group, where he worked in all of the major operating areas of AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) in South Africa. He served as a General Manager of Great Noligwa since 1996. He began his career at Vaal Reefs as a Learner Official in January 1979. He worked at Free State goldfields in Welkom for 13 years. He rejoined Vaal Reefs in 1993 and served as its General Manager at the Great Noligwa Mine. He served as a General Manager of Western Deep Levels since February 1999. He serves as an Executive Director of Anglo Platinum Ltd. Mr. Nicolau has been Executive Director of AngloGold since May 2005. He served as a Director of AngloGold Ashanti Ltd., from May 1, 2005 to November 12, 2007. He won a number of sustainable development awards which include the award for most Improved Business at South Africa's Greening the Future awards and achieved top honors in the Ernst and Young Excellence in Sustainability Reporting (ESR) Awards 2008. He studied NHD in Metalliferous Mining from UCT. He studied MDP and DPLR programs at UNISA and the AMP at Templeton College. Mr. Nicolau has a Bachelor of Technology in Mining Engineering from Witwatersrand Technikon, an MBA from the University of Cape Town and has attended the Advanced Management Program at the University of Oxford's Templeton College."[1]
