Plant owner Aalborg Forsyning said the company will stop burning coal in 2028.[1]

Background
The power station consists of three coal-burning units: 137 MW (unit 1), 305 MW (unit 2), 411 MW (unit 3), commissioned from 1977 to 1998. Unit 1 has been retired. Unit 2 was put on standby mode in 2014.[2]
District heating company Aalborg Forsyning took over Nordjylland Power station from Vattenfall as of 31 December 2015 for US$124 million.[3]
