Background on Plant
The existing station consists of two 600 MW units and is owned by Tohoku Power Company. They began operating in 1993-1994.[1]
Description of Expansion
A proposed 600 MW Unit 3 would use liquefied natural gas and coal, originally scheduled for 2028.[2]
A 2014 Tepco document states bids for construction will begin in 2014 and construction in 2016, with a planned completion date of 2020.[3]
Construction of a coal-fired 600-MW unit began in February 2016.[4] It is scheduled for completion in March 2020.[4] According to the Kiko Network trial operations began in August 2019.[5]
