Background on Plant
The six-unit, 1,200-MW coal-fired Novosibirsk-5 power station is owned by SGK, which acquired a 78% stake in the station's operator Sibeko in January 2018.[1]. The plant’s six units were brought online between 1985 and 2004.[2][3] In August 2018 SGK was acquired by Siberian Coal Energy Company (SUEK).[4]
In March 2018 it was announced that the plant would switch from burning bituminous coal to lignite because lignite is cheaper.[5]
