Patricia P. Brister
Patricia P. Brister, of Louisiana, was nominated February 7, 2006, by President George W. Bush to be the Representative of the United States of America on the Commission on the Status of Women of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations with the Rank of Ambassador. Brister's nomination was sent to the U.S. Senate for confirmation February 8, 2006.
A "devout Presbyterian", Brister served as chair of the Republican Party of Louisiana for twelve years and chair of Bush-Cheney '04 Inc. in Louisiana for four years. [1][2]
According to a 2001 "Who's Who" of Republican State Party Chairmen and Executive Directors, Brister was described thusly: "Longtime state party activist and former national committeewoman. Participated in 2000 convention site selection and arrangements. Member, St. Tammany Parish Council, District 4. Retired business owner. Member, State Museum Board. President, Orion College."
In 2005, Brister served as one of three public delegates to the United Nations 49th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women held February 28 – March 11 in New York. The other two delegates were Susan B. Hirschmann, a "partner with Williams and Jensen PLLC and former Chief of Staff to Congressman Tom DeLay (R-TX); and, Janet Parshall, host of the radio and television program 'Janet Parshall’s America' and the author of several books." The delegation was led by Ambassador Ellen R. Sauerbrey, who was then the United States Representative to the Commission on the Status of Women. [3]
