Location
The map below shows the Perawang paper mill and coal plant, in Tualang District, Siak Regency, Riau Province. The coal generating units are scattered within the top center and bottom center of this map.
Background on Plant
The Perawang pulp & paper mill, one of the world's largest, is owned by PT Indah Kiat Pulp & Paper, a subsidiary of Asia Pulp and Paper (APP), which in turn is a subsidiary of the Sinar Mas Group. The Perawang mill is powered by a coal plant; prior to the expansion, four units (Units 4, 6, 7, and 8) of the coal plant, brought online in 2000-09, were still operating, totaling 305 MW.[2][3]
Proposed Expansion
The expansion of the coal power plant consists of Units 9, 10, and 11, each 150 MW. Projected completion is planned for 2014.[4] According to Platts WEPP, all three units went into operation in 2014.[5] Google Earth shows at least one new unit between 2012 and 2014.
