Peter Charow

"Peter Charow joined the Board of Trustees in September 2009. He is the Vice President for Russia and Kazakhstan of BP p.l.c. with responsibility for strategy, risk management and strategic communications for BP’s Russia businesses. He is based in London at BP’s corporate headquarters. Mr. Charow has worked for Amoco and BP for 12 years, eight of which were spent in Moscow including as President of BP Russia from 2002-2005. Prior to joining Amoco, Mr. Charow founded and led the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia from 1994-1997, building the organization from a start up to the leading organization representing foreign investors in Russia. Mr. Charow moved to Russia in 1992 as Head of Representation for Chilewich Corporation, a New York-based commodities trading firm. Prior to that he worked in various consulting and advisory roles in New York.

"Mr. Charow is a non-executive director on the boards of TNK-BP Holdings and the Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works. He is also Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Mariinsky Theatre Charitable Trust in London.

"Mr. Charow is a graduate of Swarthmore College (1977, Political Science, with Honors) and holds M.A. and M.Phil. degrees in Political Science from Columbia University and the Harriman Institute. He spent a year as a Fulbright Scholar at Leningrad State University in the mid-1980’s. He also holds an Executive MBA from the Tuck School of Business of Dartmouth College (2006) and is a fluent Russian speaker. He is married with three children."[1]
