Peter Scher
Peter Scher, a member of the Advisory Board for Homeland Security Ventures, is "presently a partner of Mayer, Brown, and Platt, L.L.P. in Washington, D.C. His primary practice areas include corporate and financial international transactions, as well as counsel specializing in market access issues, and federal legislative/regulatory affairs in trade, tax policy, environmental policy, copyright and intellectual property."[1]
(Following a merger in February 2003 Mayer, Brown, and Platt changed its name to Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw).
"Before joining Mayer, Brown & Platt, Scher served as the U.S. Special Trade Negotiator for Agriculture at USTR in the prior William Jefferson Clinton Administration (1997-2000). There, he addressed international trade policy issues related to agriculture & food safety, and forged numerous international trade agreements to expand U.S. markets for American products."[2]
"Prior to his USTR appointment, Scher served as Chief of Staff in both the U.S. Commerce Department (1996-1997) and the U.S. Trade Representative's Office (1995-1996) to then Secretary/Ambassador Mickey Kantor; as staff director in the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment & Public Works (1993-1995); as Chief of Staff to Senator Max Baucus (D-Montana) (1991-1993); and as an associate in the Washington D.C. based law firm Keck, Mahin & Café (1989-1991)."[3]
"Scher has written several publications on the World Trade Organization WTO and America's agricultural trade agenda, and has lectured at various academic and civic forums including the London School of Economics (May 1999), the New York Academy of Sciences (November 1999), the German Marhsall Fund (February and October 2000), and the Atlantic Council of the United States Working Group on U.S-EU Trade & Economic Issues (November 1999)."[4]
