Policy Governing GMOs in the United States describes regulations on Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) in the United States. The most significant government policy on GMOs is known as the Coordinated Framework for the Regulation of Biotechnology ("Coordinated Framework"). The coordinated framework was proposed under the Reagan Administration and finalized under the George H. W. Bush administration. However, the first agricultural biotechnology products - Monsanto's recombinant bovine growth hormone (rbGH) and Calgene's Flavr Savr tomato - were not commercialized until 1994, during President Bill Clinton's first term.
