{{#Badges: CoalSwarm}} In 2006, TECO Energy proposed to build an additional unit at the existing Polk Power Station near Tampa in Polk County, Florida. There is already an operational 250 MW IGCC coal plant at the site.[1]

In October, 2007, the company suspended the project, citing the governor’s push to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and related potential cost increases.[2] Tampa Electric intends to explore natural gas and renewables as alternatives for the cancelled plant.[3]
