The Public Affairs Institute (PAI) "which was governed by the Public Affairs Committee... was created in 1967 to counteract the influence of the Center for the Study of Democratic Institutions, which “tended to veer considerably left of center.” The PAI sought to examine the most critical problems affecting free societies and to produce and publicize recommended correctives."
