Background on Plant

In August 2010 Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. announced that he had met with officials from Global Business Power Corporation about the construction of an 80-MW coal-fired plant in Pulupandan. In December 2010 activists and members of the Freedom from Debt Coalition-Negros (FDC-Negros) stormed the offices of the Provincial Government to protest the plant.[1] As of December 2019 the project had not advanced and is cancelled.
