Background on Plant
Qianxi power station is a four-unit coal-fired power plant with a total capacity of 1,200 MW. The plant was completed between 2005 and 2006, and was originally owned by CPI.[1]
Qianxi-2, Unit 5-6 expansion
CPI is currently planning to expand the power station by 2 x 660 MW.[2]
Unit 5 was permitted in April 2015.[3] The unit was reported as under construction in November 2015, with a planned completion of 2017.[4] The unit 5 is reportedly the only coal power unit which is allowed to be commissioned in 2017 in Guizhou Province by NDRC.[5] Unit 5 was commissioned in December 2017.[6]
With no developments on unit 6 since 2014, plans appear to be shelved.
Ownership
In July 2015, China Power Investment Corporation (CPI) and State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation (SNPTC) merged to become State Power Investment Corporation (国家电力投资集团), one of the five largest state-owned electricity producers in the People's Republic of China.[7]
