Reuven Gal
Dr. Reuven Gal, "founder and president of the Carmel Institute, is the vice-president of IANYS." [1]
"Dr. Reuven Gal, Chairman of the Board and founder of the Carmel Institute for Social Studies in Israel, is an internationally renowned expert in the field of youth volunteerism. Dr. Gal served in the Israeli Defense Force and retired with the rank of Colonel. After receiving his Ph.D. from the University of California-Berkley, he held a number of teaching positions in North America and Israel. Appointed Deputy National Security Advisor for Domestic Policy of the Israeli National Security Council in August 2002, Dr. Gal was charged with promoting Sherut Leumi, the youth service program. In addition to his work in the youth service field, Dr. Gal has been actively involved with conflict resolution and reconciliation efforts in the former Yugoslavia countries and Northern Ireland.
"Dr. Gal’s newest book, co-authored with Donald J. Eberly, is Service Without Guns, which explores the development and impact of national youth service programs, as well as examines the strategies and key elements of successful programs." [2]
He "was previously Chief Psychologist of the Israeli Defence Force and has also served as a combat officer in an elite infantry unit of the IDF." [3]
