Rieky Stuart
Rieky Stuart "is a consultant and has worked in international development for 30 years. She was Oxfam Canada Executive Director from 1999 to 2005.
"She has taught in Thailand at the university and teacher? college level, managed ?ne Sky? a Saskatoon-based centre for public education about international development, worked in the education department of the National Farmers Union, and served as field staff (in Botswana) and subsequently as a senior manager for CUSO.
"In 1985, Ms. Stuart began teaching at the Coady International Institute, St. Francis Xavier University, Antigonish Nova Scotia, as assistant professor. In addition to teaching courses and workshops in Canada, Asia and Africa on gender and development, organisational management and development, and development management, she worked as an international consultant for a range of NGOs, bilateral and multilateral organisations.
"In 1995, Ms. Stuart was appointed as Deputy Director of CCIC, the Canadian umbrella group for international cooperation NGOs. She joined Oxfam Canada in 1999.
"Ms. Stuart has served in a voluntary capacity on a number of Boards, including the Saskatchewan Council for International Cooperation, partnership Africa Canada, the Antigonish Women' Association, the North South Institute, and the Association for Women in Development. She has a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Western Ontario, an M.Sc. in planning from the University of Toronto, and a Master' degree in Management from McGill. She is the author of a number of books and articles on international development /gender and development.
"Ms. Stuart' interest is in building effective organisations that can meet the challenges of both change and social justice. These challenges are as relevant for voluntary organisations at home and abroad as for government or private business. Meeting this challenge requires combining external perspectives with internal reflection and action." [1]
