Robert Carswell
Mr. Carswell "is of counsel to the Corporate Finance Group. He was the senior partner of the firm from 1985-1991. He joined the firm in 1952, leaving for periods of government service in the Office of Naval Intelligence (1952-1955), as Special Assistant to the Secretary of Treasury (1962-1965), and as Deputy Secretary of the Treasury (1977-1981). He served as the principal U.S. negotiator on the financial aspects of the U.S.-Iranian hostage accord in 1981. He also was responsible for the New York City and Chrysler Corporation financial guaranty programs.
"Mr. Carswell was admitted to the New York Bar in 1952 and the California Bar in 1954. He has specialized in banking and corporate law. He is the Chairman of the Board of Private Export Funding Corporation and Chairman of the Board of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Georgia-Pacific Corporation. Mr. Carswell is a member of the American Bar Association, the Bar Association of the City of New York, St. Andrews Society (New York), Phi Beta Kappa, Century Association, and the Links (New York City)."
