Robert Webb

Bob Webb "who retired in 1993 as an editorial writer for the Cincinnati Enquirer, was a founding father of the Cincinnati Professional Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists (then known as Sigma Delta Chi) and served as its first president.

"His distinguished 30-year career with the Enquirer included positions as education writer, night city editor, politics writer, Washington bureau chief, news editor and 17-plus years on the editorial board.

"Before he joined the Enquirer, Webb was an associate editor of the State Times in Jackson, Miss., his native state.

"In his wide-ranging career, Webb traveled extensively in a variety of assignments that took him from Capetown to Taipeh and Seoul to Moscow. He continues to do considerable traveling as a vice chairman of the Advisory Council of the International Communications Forum, which conducts meetings of media professionals in a number of nations with the aim of raising the level of communications globally.

"Webb, who also is editor of the newsletter of the World Affairs Council of Greater Cincinnati, has maintained a close association with SPJ since he joined the organization as a student at the University of Missouri School of Journalism. He served as a president of the Jackson, Miss., and Mississippi state chapters and held the top office of the Cincinnati Professional Chapter in 1988, when it hosted the SPJ national convention."
