Roger Orgill
Biographical Information
"Since 1996 Roger has been engaged in voluntary work chairing the Stoneleigh Group, a four year Demonstration Project using outdoor learning retreats in the exploration of personal values and vision in youth work development. As Chair of the Foundation for Outdoor Adventure he served on several government advisory panels and the National Lottery - New Opportunities Fund. He is currently Advisor to UK Youth and National Council for Voluntary Youth Services. He is a Trustee of World Youth Service and Enterprise NGO, and of Global News Education Trust, the charitable arm of Positive News Publishing, with a focus on Positive Youth News.
"For over 40 years Roger was active in the field of outdoor education and adventure training. He was founding member of staff at Plas y Brenin, the then Snowdonia National Recreation Centre, serving as Instructor, Chief Instructor and Deputy Director. Later as Director of Outdoor Adventure Programmes of the Sports Council’s “Sport for All” campaign he promoted adventure activity provision as an aspect of urban regeneration. In the capacity of the Senior Development Officer for Countryside Recreation based at the Sports Council London HQ, he encouraged many joint initiatives with the Countryside Commission, English Nature, Forestry Commission, and British Waterways.
