Background
In 2012 Russia's Rusal, the world's largest aluminum producer, said it will invest US$100 million in a coal-fired electricity generating plant in Jamaica. The new power plant would be built near the Ewarton bauxite plant. Construction of the plant was scheduled to begin the next year and be completed by 2015.[1]
In October 2015 it was reported Rusal was planning a 140 MW gas plant in Jamaica instead.[2]
