In 2003 the Guardian newspaper reported: "Colin McLean, one of Britain's wealthiest hedge fund managers and founder of SVM Asset Management, is at the centre of a bitter row with one of his former right-hand men, Michael Nicol, who claims he was sacked days before he was set to receive a large bonus. It is thought the sum in dispute is between £500,000 and £1m. " [1]
