Background on plant

The existing power station is a 406 MW subcritical power station in Saijo city, co-fired by coal and biomass. Unit 1 is 156 MW and installed in 1965, and unit 2 is 250 MW and installed in 1970.

Replacement unit

Owner Shikoku Electric Power Co. Ltd. has proposed replacing unit 1 with a 500 MW ultra-supercritical unit, planned for operation in March 2023. Construction of the unit began in June 2019, according to the Kiko Network.
