Background on Plant

In August 2017 Consunji-led Semirara Mining and Power Corp. signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Department of Energy to develop a mine-mouth coal-fired power plant in Antique province, approximate to its coal mining site. The project, targeted to be completed in 2019, will supply electricity to Mindoro via a 20-kilometer submarine cable.[1]

As of November 2019 the project had not progressed in more than two years and appears to be shelved.
