Background
Sendai Takamatsu power station is a proposed 112 MW coal- and biomass-fired power station in Sendai. Shikoku Electric Power and Sumitomo Corporation announced plans for the plant in March 2017 and is currently in the process of environmental assessment by the ordinance of Sendai City.[1]
In March 2018 Shikoku Electric Power said it was withdrawing from the planned power station, saying the plant was incompatible with decarbonization goals. Civil society groups are calling on Sumitomo Corporation to also withdraw from the plant.[1]
On June 1, 2018, Sumitomo Corporation announced the plant will switch its fuel from coal-biomass mix-fuel to biomass mono-fuel combustion.[2]
