Background

GMR Energy Limited acquired SJK Powergen Ltd in 2009, which has been in the process of developing the plant.

GMR Energy received environmental clearance for the 1320 MW coal project in August 2014.

The plant is not included on the GMR Energy website among the "Assets Under Development." Nor is it included in the March 2016 India government list of coal plants under construction, nor a July 2016 list. The project appears to be abandoned.
