Background

The project is proposed by MP Power Trading Company Limited subsidiary, Shahpura Thermal Power Co. Ltd. Shahpura Thermal Power was incorporated to act as Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for development of the project, which will be set for procurement of power through competitive bidding. An application for long term coal linkage was submitted in 2007.

However, as of 2014 the power station has not received environmental clearance, and may have been cancelled.
