Background on Plant

Shanwei Honghaiwan power station is a four-unit coal-fired power plant with a total capacity of 2,520 MW in Guangdong Province. The first two units, totaling 1,200 MW, were completed in 2008. Units 3 & 4, totaling 1,320 MW, were completed in 2010-11. The plant is owned by Guangdong Yudean Group.[1]

Description of Expansion

The power plant has been designed for 4*600MW+4*1000MW. Guangdong Elec Power Dev Co was pushing forward the second phase of the plant with 2000MW. The feasibility study was completed in 2014. [2] [3]

2016: Nationwide Restrictions Imposed on Development of Coal-Fired Power Capacity

Due to new restrictions announced during 2016 by the National Energy Administration and the National Development and Reform Commission, further capacity expansions at this location appear to be on hold or cancelled.
