Background on units 1-6

The plant was originally owned by Shenhua Group. Four coal-fired units of Jiaozuo power station of 220 MW each (880 MW total) were brought online between 1979 and 1986. They were retired from 2010 to 2015. Units 5-6 of 220 MW each were commissioned from 1991 to 1992 and were retired in 2015.

Expansion, units 7-8

Shenhua said it would build two 660 MW ultra-supercritical coal-fired units at this plant, totaling 1,320 MW, to replace the four older units. Construction on the new units began in 2013. The new units went online in 2015.
