Background on Plant
In April 2016 Tajikistan ratified a concession agreement between the Government of Tajikistan and Malaysia’s HOS Powertech Sdn Bhd on construction of a coal-fired power plant in Isfara district of Sughd province. The company said it will conduct feasibility studies for construction of the 300 MW Shurob power plant and modernization of the Shurob coal field in Sughd’s Isfara district. The plant is scheduled for completion in 2019, at a cost of US$500 million.[1]
In March 2018, HOS International Trading SDN BHD said it intends to submit a new version of the feasibility study for the project to the Tajik government in March 2018. HOS intends to implement the Shurab thermal power plant in a consortium with Chinese companies.[2]
