Background

The power station is owned by Gujarat State Electricity Corporation (GSECL). Units 1-2 of 120 MW each were commissioned in 1988 and 1993. The power station is located at Sikka near Jamnagar, the major industrial city in the state of Gujarat.[1]

In May 2015 GSECL said it was commissioning a feasibility study to replace the old, existing units with supercritical technology, extending their life and possibly their size (MW).[2]

Instead, the two units were retired in 2017.[3]

Proposed 500 MW expansion (Units 3 and 4)

Gujarat State Electricity Corporation has completed Units 3 and 4 - 250MW each.[4] Photos confirm the project to be complete (see above).[1]

Unit 3 was commissioned in April 2015.[5] Unit 4 was commissioned on 25 September 2015.[6]
