Background

The project is being proposed by JSW Group. A September 2009 Business Standard article reported that JSW Energy was seeking alternative land from the state of Gujarat to shift its power project from Junagadh to a proposed 2,400 MW Dahej power station (JSW Energy) in South Gujarat. Explaining the reason for changing the site, a company official said that Junagadh had been chosen for its proximity to Simar Port, since the power plant would import coal; however, an initial survey found that development of a port at Simar was technically infeasible, leading JSW Energy to request alternative land.
