Biographical Information

"Christopher Kelly is Chairman of The King's Fund and of the Committee on Standards in Public Life, whose most recent report was on the funding of political parties. He steps down as chair of the Financial Ombudsman Service in January 2012. Among other things he has in recent years chaired an inquiry for the Joseph Rowntree Foundation on paying for the cost of long-term care, as well as holding a variety of other advisory and non-executive positions in the public, voluntary and private sectors.

"Christopher graduated from Trinity College Cambridge in 1968 with a BA (Economics) (Hons). He obtained an MA (Econ) from Manchester University in 1970. He joined HM Treasury in 1970 and was appointed Private Secretary to the Financial Secretary in 1971. From 1978 to 1980 he was Secretary to the Wilson Committee of Inquiry into Financial Institutions. He held a range of other appointments at the Treasury including Director of Fiscal & Monetary Policy from 1994 to 1995. From 1995 to 1997 he was Chairman of the Policy Board at the Department of Social Security and was Permanent Secretary to the Department of Health from 1997 to 2000. He was chairman of the NSPCC from 2002 to 2010."
