Background

In 2015 Tokyo Electric Power (TEPCO) and Chubu Electric Power said they planned a coal-fired power station of 1,000 MW in the town of Shinchi, Sōma District.[1]

In March 2015 Nikkei reported that Soma Kyodo Power, a joint venture in Fukushima Prefecture between TEPCO, Chubu Electric Power, and Tohoku Electric Power, planned on a 1,000 MW power station at a cost of around 200 billion yen.[2]

As of January 2019 there had been no additional news about this project and it appears to have been shelved.
