Location

Background
In March 2015, Japan Gasoline Co. (JGC) announced that it would develop a 1,000 MW coal plant in Sorong, West Papua. The compuany said that it would initially build a 50 MW unit, adding additional capacity in a later phase. The company said that it would begin clearing land so that construction could begin in 2015. The plant would use low-quality local coal.[1]
In the 2017-2026 long-range plan, the Sorong project is changed from coal to gas.[2] In the 2019-2028 long-range plan a single 50-MW unit is scheduled for 2024.[3]
As of May 2019, with no reported progress on the 1,000 MW Japan Gasoline project in over four years, it appears to be cancelled.
