Soybean Event FG72 is a variety of genetically engineered herbicide tolerant soybean made by Bayer CropScience. It has been genetically engineered so that it can survive being sprayed with the herbicide glyphosate and with HPPD inhibitors, such as the herbicide isoxaflutole.
- "Soybean event FG72 contains the stably integrated 2mepsps gene, which confers tolerance to the herbicide glyphosate, and the hppdPfW336 gene, which confers tolerance to HPPD inhibitors such as the herbicide isoxaflutole.[1]
Bayer CropScience LP submitted a petition to the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) requesting the deregulation of FG72. On July 13, 2012, APHIS published a notice in the Federal Register announcing that Bayer's petition is available for public review, along with a draft Environmental Assessment (EA). The APHIS notice solicited public comments, due on or before September 11, 2012.
