Spencer Ackerman
Spencer Ackerman, a journalist based in Washington, D.C., is a senior fellow and reporter for the Washington Independent, a website operated by the Center for Independent Media.[1] He is a former senior correspondent for The American Prospect; a former reporter-blogger forJosh Marshall's Talking Points Memo and TPMmuckraker;[2] and national security correspondent for The Washington Monthly.[3]
Ackerman's articles have also appeared in Atlantic Monthly, The Nation, Men's Journal, Slate, Salon, the Austin American-Statesman, Survival, Congressional Quarterly, and "other publications."[4]
Formerly a reporter with the The New Republic, Ackerman was fired in October 2006[5] "for comments about the publication that he posted on his personal blog, Too Hot For TNR."[6][7]
Ackerman, who has "been to Iraq as a reporter twice",[7] has participated since October 2007 in the U.S. Department of Defense's Bloggers' Roundtable.

After graduating from Rutgers University, Ackerman "came to Washington in 2002 to work for the New Republic and, while a sometimes-blogger for the magazine, didn't plan a future in it."[7]
