Stephan A. Thernstrom "is the Winthrop Professor of History at Harvard University and a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute. His books have been awarded the Bancroft Prize in American History and the Waldo G. Leland Prize of the American Historical Association. He has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, American Council of Learned Societies, Social Science Research Council, and John M. Olin Foundation. Mr. Thernstrom previously served as associate professor at Brandeis University and professor at UCLA. In 1978-79, he was the Pitt Professor of American History and Institutions at Cambridge and Professorial Fellow at Trinity College. Mr. Thernstrom received his B.S. from Northwestern University and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Harvard University." [1]
