Steve Buckley
Steve Buckley "has been President of the World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (AMARC) since 2003 and a member of the AMARC International Board since 1992. AMARC is an international association, established in 1983 and representing community radio organisations and their federations in 110 countries. AMARC has consultative status with ECOSOC and UNESCO and is a sector member of the ITU. He is also a member of the International Council of IFEX, the International Freedom of Expression Exchange, which groups together 72 leading freedom of expression organisations worldwide. Steve works part-time as Managing Director of Community Media Solutions, a UK-based media development agency. He has been a speaker at numerous international conferences and events on media, communications and development and has authored many related reports, book chapters and policy papers including, among others, for the UK Department for International Development, UNESCO, UN ICT Task Force, the World Bank, Institute for Development Studies, Social Science Research Council and the Ford Foundation. Steve was a founder of the UK Community Media Association in 1983 and as its chief executive from 1991 to 2004, he established the organisation as the sector body for community media in the UK. Steve has been a prominent civil society participant throughout the WSIS process, pressing for recognition of the role of traditional and community media and for a people-centred vision of development based on equity, sustainability and respect for fundamental human rights. He holds degree qualifications in Natural Sciences (MA Cambridge University) and Sociology (MA Essex University)." [1]
