Biographical Information
"Dr Soon Young Chang, an established veteran in the UAE with a long global tenure in the investment arena, was appointed as Board Member of Dubai World in Dec 2010. Dr Chang serves as Senior Advisor in the Investment Corporation of Dubai, providing strategic counsel and lending his distinctive global perspective to the investment arm of the Dubai Government, which pools some of the biggest holdings. ICD’s portfolio includes investments in Emirates airline, DNATA, Dubai Aerospace Enterprise and a number of UAE-based banks and financial firms such as Emirates NBD and Noor Islamic Bank... As Founder and Chairman of Midas International Asset Management Company an international asset management fund which manages over US$ 5 billion, he helps define and implement Midas’s financial vision. He is also a founding partner of Sentinel Advisor, a New York-based arbitrage fund.
"Dr Chang has been actively involved in development and management of investments and application of several innovative financial products in Asian markets. Among them, the KOSPI (Korea Stock Price index)-Linked SEN (Synthetic Equity Note) was accredited as the first Korean equity derivative, and together with the KOSPI-Linked Cliquet warrant, was awarded “Deal of the Year” by Asia Money and Finance in 1992 and 1993.Dr Chang, gaining keen insight from these accomplishments, has served as an advisor to a variety of financial institutions, including Korea National Pension Corporation, Hyundai international Merchant Bank, Templeton-Ssangyong Investment Trust Company, Ssangyong Securities Co., Korea Long Term Credit Bank, Korea Exchange Bank, and Daehan Investment Trust Company. Client advisory services provided by Dr. Chang at these institutions ranged from developing and structuring various types of financial products to formulating global investment strategies.
"He has also served on the board of a number of international funds, such as the Asia Bond Fund, Atlantis Fund and Galileo China Fund. Dr. Chang has worked as a Professor of Financial Engineering at Hanyang University, Korea. He was also Visiting Professor at Shanghai Institute of International Finance, China and VIT (Vellore Institute of Technology), India. Dr. Chang received his Master’s and Doctoral degrees from the George Washington University in the US and has authored many books and articles on the subject of financial engineering." [1]
