Background

The first two units were commissioned in 2000 and 1999, and is listed as using lignite coal from a captive mine - either the company's Mangrol Mines or Vastan Mines in Gujarat.[2][1]

2010 Expansion

Gujarat Industries added an additional third and fourth unit of a combined 250 megawatts (MW) to the power station in 2010, for use with lignite coal from a captive mine.[3][4]

Further expansion under consideration

On its website (February 2012) the company states that the government of Gujarat "has consented to allot 500 MW Expansion Phase-3 also to Gujarat Industries Power Company Limited and the Site Selection, Environmental Clearance, and Engineering Activities by consultants for the same are in progress."[5] An EIA was submitted in April 2013.[6][7]

However, as of December 2017 environmental clearance has not been granted, and the project appears to be abandoned.
