Susan D. Moeller
Susan Moeller, "the director of the International Center for Media and the Public Agenda, is an associate professor in the Philip Merrill College of Journalism and an affiliated faculty member of the School of Public Policy, at the University of Maryland, College Park. Author of COMPASSION FATIGUE: HOW THE MEDIA SELL DISEASE, FAMINE, WAR AND DEATH and SHOOTING WAR: PHOTOGRAPHY AND THE AMERICAN EXPERIENCE OF COMBAT, she was formerly the director for eight years of the Journalism Program at Brandeis University. Moeller has also been a fellow in the International Security Program and at the Joan Shorenstein Center for the Press, Politics and Public Policy both at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, and a Fulbright Professor in international relations in Pakistan and in Thailand. She has taught in the history departments at Princeton University and Pacific Lutheran University. Moeller received her PhD and AM from Harvard and her BA at Yale University.
"Moeller has special expertise in US and global media affairs, especially in regards to international relations, violence and conflict, terrorism and WMD, human rights, and visual communications. She has authored numerous major media studies, including "Media Coverage of Weapons of Mass Destruction" (Center for International and Security Studies, Univ. of Maryland), and "Government, Media and Human Rights" (International Council on Human Rights Policy, Geneva), and has written on topics related to media and public policy for journals such as The Harvard International Journal of Press-Politics, the Journal of International Affairs, Neiman Reports, YaleGlobal and the American Journalism Review.
"Moeller regularly consults on issues relating to the media, terrorism and conflict for such institutions as Chatham House, the Conflict Prevention and Crisis Management Unit in the External Relations Directorate General of the European Commission in Brussels and the International Committee of the Red Cross, and for such organizations as Save the Children and World Vision. She is a frequent speaker at universities around the world, including Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Berkeley and the London School of Economics." [1]
