Susan K. Neely of Iowa was appointed by Director of Homeland Security Tom Ridge to serve as the Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs in the Department of Homeland Security. She previously served as Special Assistant to President for Communications in the Office of Homeland Security at White House.
Before joining Homeland Security, Neely was Senior Vice President for Communications of the Association of American Medical Colleges (from 1996). She served as Press Secretary, Communications Director, and then as Manager of the the reelection campaign of Iowa Governor Terry Branstad (1982-87). She is a graduate of the University of Iowa and holds a MPA from Drake University.[1][2]
