Background on Plant

Suyuan Investment is constructing a power station of 300 MW (2 x 150MW) in Xinshan Village, Toutang Town. Unit 1 began operating in August 2015, but was not connected to the public grid. Unit 2 is under construction.[1] [2] [3][4]

There has been no developments on the construction of unit 2 since 2015, and it appears to be shelved.

Ownership

The facilities of Suyuan Power Station were bought from Guangdong Yuejia Power Company by Guangdong Yudean Group in 2012 (now Guangxi Baise Mining Group).[5][6]

Guangdong Yudean Group retired its 2*125 MW Meixian power station in 2010 after 13 years of operation. The vacant capacity of its retired units allowed the company to build newer, bigger power station - Suyuan power station - under the policy of "suspension of smaller units to build bigger ones".[7] The used facilities were sold to Guangxi Suyuan Investment Company, installed as Suyuan Power Station. Regarding to transferring outdated facilities to remote rural areas, the Southern Energy Regulatory Bureau called and interviewed the head of Guangdong Yudean Group and the chief of Guangdong Yuejia Power Company in 2016. However no further action was taken.[8]
